What’s one of the best ways to spend a muggy Saturday morning in October in the Tampa Bay area? I know — get up early, drive to quaint, picturesque San Antonio, and participate in the 35th annual Rattlesnake Run. Who says there are no hills in Florida? This challenging 5-mile course was full of them, and a bridge and an orange grove to boot.
Warren clocked a 36:12, good enough for third place out of 26 age-group finishers, while younger brother Gary came in at 40:46 and picked up 9th place in the same bracket.
Above, Warren and Gary are perched at the site of the race start. Cruelly, the course requires runners to begin the race by running from the road straight up this short but steep grassy hill.
Post-race bliss.
The hardware.
